Bacteria on the skin may make eczema worse and lead to infection. This simple formula makes for an anti-bacterial bath that is even gentler that a swimming pool and usually does not sting even when there is open skin.
Instructions:
- In a full bathtub with warm water (not hot!) (~ 40 gallons):
- Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of common liquid bleach into the water, mix well
- Soak in the chlorinated water for about 10 minutes
- Rinse the skin thoroughly with fresh water at the end of the bath
- Gently pat the skin dry
- Apply medication (if directed) and/or moisturizer as directed while the skin is still moist.
- Repeat baths 3 to 5 times a week or as prescribed by the physician.
Instructions:
This will make for a soak to either submerge a limb or to make a compress.
- In a basin or large bowl of water (~4 gallons)
- Add 1/2 teaspoons to 1 teaspoon of common liquid bleach into the water and mix well
- Soak or perform compress for about 10 minutes
- Rinse the skin thoroughly with fresh water at the end. You may use a gentle cleanser as well.
- Gently pat dry
- Apply medication (if directed) and/or moisturizer while the skin is still moist.
- Repeat 2 to 3 times a week or as prescribed by the physician.
**Note: For many it is easier to do the bath and probably safer since errors in dilution are more significant in smaller volumes. If there is stinging, irritation, or pain, stop immediately and wash with copious amounts of clear water.
